Portsmouth's Museum of Military History gathers uniforms, weaponry, and other artifacts from every major war fought by the United States. Objects include a wooden crutch from the Civil War, a Japanese prayer flag from the World War II era, and a pewter canteen. The museum is located on the east side of the city, between the waterfront and Ida Barbour Park.
